“Eighteen years will have passed since the 2006 World Cup. We will be at a stage where even the most modern infrastructures will need to be refurbished and receive new investment. Euro 2024 would be the perfect opportunity,” Christian Seifert told Sport Bild magazine.
“England had Euro 1996, France got the 2016 tournament and Russia got the 2018 World Cup. It seems obvious to say that we want Euro 2024,” he added.
Seifert also said that the topic was discussed when Germany was deciding which cities to put forward as hosts for the 2020 Euros.
Berlin and Munich are the two official German candidates to stage matches at the 2020 championship, which will be staged all across Europe in 13 different countries.
West Germany staged the European Championship in 1988.
