In its weekly blog update, Bungie addressed growing community questions and feedback about matchmaking more players into Destiny 2: Warmind’s new endgame activity, which takes place in the public zone of Mars. Other random players in the zone can always jump into an ongoing event, but the mode was designed around the idea that three skilled players could group up and complete the activity. So why then are players resorting to nine-player groups just to get through Escalation Protocol?
Bungie says it’s because players have yet to reach their full Power level cap for the Warmind expansion, which means Escalation Protocol will be highly difficult or even impossible for lower-level players to complete. Bungie is not planning to make any changes to Escalation Protocol at this time because most of the players in the game aren’t at the highest reaches of Power Level.
Bungie says it will continue to monitor the situation before it makes any changes. But based on the developer’s response, it doesn’t sound like large group matchmaking will be coming anytime soon; although, Bungie said it has seen players enjoy these large group activities and it would be taken into consideration for possible activities in the future:
For now, lower-leveled players will have to continue to resort to the same methods of getting a large group together. And players should continue leveling up to try to tackle Escalation Protocol at higher Power levels.
