One of the main ways to change how the game is played is by using Exotics, which have unique perks that either modify existing abilities or add completely new ones. The Witch Queen’s Exotic items are many, and while some of them are fantastic additions to Destiny 2, others didn’t quite hit the mark upon release and need further work to become viable. This includes the Exotic glaives, for example, but also the Blight Ranger Exotic helm for the Hunter, which is very bad on its own, but it became very popular because of a recent glitch.

What Blight Ranger does is massively increase the damage players can reflect back to the enemies with the Arcstrider’s Whirlwind Guard ability, making it extremely subpar in all game modes. However, players quickly noticed that Blight Ranger could reflect player damage times five back to the enemy if the Super was activated quickly enough, which translated into instances where a single Parasite shot with twenty stacks of Worm’s Hunger would deal over a million damage, instead.

This was enough to break Destiny 2 on its own, but players found another glitch that allowed them to cast the Super to reflect damage and immediately use a relic or hop onto the Sparrow, canceling the Super’s usage. What this did was make every single shot fired by players deal five times its damage with no effort, with the glitch being easily reproduced because the Super energy was retained as well. As such, Bungie has now disabled the Blight Ranger Exotic in order to sort this glitch out, which could seriously impact all game modes and make them trivial.

Destiny 2’s Exotics often have unintended interactions with other elements of the game, and Bungie is no stranger to disabling them if needed, like with the problematic Telesto. A recent example comes from some Destiny 2 Exotics and mods being disabled in the day 1 Raid race with the launch of Vow of the Disciple, as some of them were unintentionally too powerful, such as Suppressing Glaive, or had weird interactions going on, such as the IKELOS_SMG_V1.0.2. It’s likely that Blight Ranger will be enabled once again in a week or so, but it’s hard to tell if Bungie is taking away both glitches from it or just the more severe of the two.
