Setting the record straight over the recent bans, Bungie confirmed that around 400 players had been banned from the PC version of Destiny 2 yesterday. Bans were issued to players who had been using tools that posed a threat to the ecosystem of the game, not for the use of overlays or recording tools like XSplit and OBS. In addition, it was confirmed that the game itself can’t ban players, only the studio has that sort of power after a manual investigation.
As part of the update, Bungie included a new help page with added information on using third party tools with Destiny 2 on PC. Tools like OBS and XSplit, are only partially supported, so players won’t be able to use the Game Capture setting on either, and instead, use the products Window or Screen capture. Alternatively, hardware capture devices like Elgato as well as NVIDIA Shadowplay and AMD ReLive are all fully supported. The page also confirms that most overlays for hardware monitoring or other visual notification features are not supported by Destiny 2 either. The complete list can be found here.
With PC games, certain players also take the opportunity to mine through game files to uncover nuggets of information about potential content. It didn’t take long for that to happen to Destiny 2 has one Reddit user found a number of audio files for content that isn’t currently in the game. While it’s possible some of the files represent content that was cut or not intended for use, fans believe it could hint at upcoming content over the next few months. The audio files in question revealed a number of interesting topics from the reappearance of the long-lost Warlock Osiris, to new patrol zones on Phobos, and much more.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
