The latest nugget of information comes from the online entertainment retailer known as Base.com. The UK specialist added a pre-order listing for Burnout Paradise HD on the PlayStation 4. The game comes in at 39.99 British pounds, roughly $55 with a release date of March 30, 2018. No other information is included outside of the original box art and a description that depicts an older trailer for The Ultimate Box edition which originally launched back in 2009.
While EA has yet to confirm or deny the existence of this game, this listing isn’t the first to have appeared over the past month. If this is ultimately true, it does appear to be the only Burnout game fans are going to get for a while. Criterion previously revealed that the studio was too busy with other projects and didn’t have any plans for a new game in the long running racing franchise. Since that time however, Burnout Paradise has come to the Xbox One through backward compatibility, giving fans on at least one console the ability to start crashing virtual cars.
While fans wait to see if this rumor is ultimately true, they received an alternative option courtesy of the original Criterion founders. Last year, Three Fields Entertainment, founded by Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, launched Danger Zone, a game which acts as a spiritual successor to the popular Crash mode from most of the previous Burnout games. Originally known as Project Idaho, Danger Zone challenges players to rack up high scores by causing accidents and creating as much chaos as possible.
Burnout Paradise HD is rumored to be in development for unspecified consoles.
